Welcome and thank you for browsing our Dancescene
website.
At Dancescene studios our teachers endeavour to open
your child’s eyes to the ‘joy of dance’, the fun and drama of performance while
nurturing the development of musical appreciation. Using the Royal Academy of Dancing (RAD)
syllabus as an excellent framework we have incorporated greater accent on the
linkages of movement, mime and music to ensure that your child is exposed to a
more comprehensive and freer approach to music and dance.
Dancing is a wonderful medium for
self-expression. Encouraging musicality,
poise and self-confidence, dance is great fun as well as being an artistic
discipline. The philosophy behind Dancescene is to actively engage children in
dance without making classes overly formal or serious. Dancescene jazz and
hip-hop classes in particular, provide an ideal forum for children to
confidently express their choreographic ideas in the formulation of new dance
routines. Performance is a rewarding and
much anticipated part of the Dancescene programme and the annual Dancescene
recital introduces children to the fun of the theatre while presenting the
opportunity for all students to perform on stage for supportive families and
friends.
Dancescene provides dance tuition in classical
ballet, jazz, contemporary dance and hip-hop for children aged from three years
through to eighteen years. We also
provide an array of Adult Ballet classes for women, which are effective stretch
and conditioning classes to sculpt and maintain the body in terrific
shape. Have a look at our timetable.
Term Fees Term Fees vary according to the type of class
undertaken and are calculated on the basis of the state primary school term or
pro-rata depending on when your child starts with Dancescene. A $3.00
administration fee is included with the fee each term and fees are required to
be paid before the term commences. Term
fees are non-refundable. When an enrolment
form is returned with term fees to Dancescene, a pink confirmation slip will be
returned to you to confirm your child’s place in a class. Please use our contact us link for a copy of

Teaching Background We believe that dance teachers should educate,
inspire and motivate children by example so that you can be assured your
children are not only taught by the best people in the field but that your
child will be taught in a highly interactive, supportive and positive learning
environment. As
principal and director of Dancescene, Lisa Purchas has a dance background that
includes training to an advanced level in classical ballet (RAD) and National
Character Dancing (ISTD) and being awarded for outstanding achievement in
contemporary dance (Ray Gibbons Cup, Easter Competitions 1984 New
Zealand). She has previously taught in New Zealand, Australia
and Indonesia and currently
teaches at Dancescene studios in Claremont,
Nedlands and Dalkeith. She has a Bachelor
of Arts Degree in Asian Studies and International Relations (2000) and a
Masters Degree in International Business (Curtin) 2006. In collaboration with creative illustrator
Prue Van Wyck, Lisa wrote and published the children’s ballet book ‘Andweina
& Lucy Love to Dance’ in 2004 and in 2007 jointly produced and launched
with The Media Agency W.A., the first of several volumes of the DVD “Teach Me
to Dance” - Ballet Basics for 3-5 year
olds. Volumes I & II (2008) are now
available online at www.teachmetodancedvd.com.
These are exquisitely interactive presentations full of beautiful visual
concepts, repertoire and ideas for nurturing the joy of dance in young
children. As
principal of Dancescene Wembley, Mikaila Purchas has a dance background that
includes training to an advanced level in classical ballet (RAD) and training
at the Graduate College of Dance.
Mikaila has previously taught children at Dancescene studios in Claremont, Nedlands and
Dalkeith.
Dancescene
also employs the very best young teachers in Perth and these talented individuals comprise
retired professional dancers, WAAPA and former Graduate College of Dance
students, and Brent Street Performing Arts graduates. All teachers are selected on the basis of
their dance competency and capability and also on their ability to positively
impart their passion for dance to our young ‘Dancescene’ students. In
addition to substantial dance experience, our Dancescene teaching collective
enjoys diverse professional training including business, medicine, occupational
therapy, psychology, The Arts, interior design and early childhood
education.
We look
forward to meeting you and your child soon.
With best regards, Lisa & Mikaila Purchas and our Dancescene team
